ACGM

Client Installation and Use

This tutorial is to go over the steps of using the ACGM client (ACGM stands for Asheron's Call Guild Manager) to update your Allegiance Trees.

It is by far the easiest and fastest way to edit your character information.

The program was written by Temmu and can be found for download at ftp.acpost.net/asheronscall/.

If you are here looking for help in adding the information by way of the web browser, than you will find very limited information here to help you.

To add information via the web browser, the only thing you should need is your password (or default password if it is the first time changing information the tree) and the information in which you plan to add.

Your default password can be received from your patron. If for some reason your patron does not have the default password, you can ask any senior member of the allegiance and/or your monarch.

If it is the first time changing information on your character, you should immediately change your password. It should be noted that if you have multiple characters and change the password for one, the others WILL NOT change. The must all be changed individually.

Installation

  1. First, make sure you go to ftp.acpost.net/asheronscall/ and download a copy of the ACGM client. The current version is .31.
  2. Next, using an unzip utility, unzip the ACGM file onto your computer. If you dont have a program to unzip the files, try downloading Winzip from www.winzip.com.
  3. Go to the folder where you unzipped the ACGM files.
  4. Click on the set-up file. This will take you though a series of steps in an easy to follow menu.
  5. Once it is complete, depending on your operating system, you may have to reboot. Click Finish and reboot if necessary, eitherway, once done, skip to First Use below.

First Use

Ok, now you have or should have ACGM set-up on your computer. The next thing we need to do is help you access your Allegiance Tree with the program. The next easy to follow steps should take you through the process.

  1. Open up the ACGM program. You should see a screen (Figure B) on top of the one pictured above (Figure A).
  2. As you can see there are three things you will need to enter. First click on Server Address. The server address is the url to the script as if you were calling it directly. In my example it is saints.acpost.net/server/server.cgi. Enter the information as it applies to you in this space.
  3. Next, you will need to enter your character name. The character name should be entered EXACTLY as it is spelled in the allegiance tree. It is case sensative. You may get an error if you do so otherwise. Or develop other problems as you change information.
  4. Next enter you password. If this is the first time making changes to your information, you will need to enter the default password.
  5. Next, click on OK and it should access the allegiance tree server and display a screen similiar to Figure A above.

Changing Information

  1. The first thing you will want to do is change your password. You can do this by going the the menu bar at the top of the program and click on "Current Player Functions" (See Figure C).
  2. This will display something similiar to below: Click on Change Password.

  3. This will bring up a panel where you can enter new password information. Enter your password on the first line, and repeat the password in the second.
  4. Click Ok. That its. The password is changed.
  5. Now all you have to do is enter your information for your character. Make sure you click "Save Changes" when you are done or inbetween the different panels. It should also be noted that the information may not be reflected on the  allegiance tree panel to the left of the form fields until you click "Refresh Tree" underneath it.

ACGM Plugins

There are already a few plugins out there made specifically to help you keep your information accurate as well as to provide communication between members.

The first of these is AC IRC. It is a decal plugin that allows you to talk on IRC while in game. This plug-in was also written by Temmu. A search through google will help find current download sites.

The second program, Link, is another decal plug-in and was written by Your-god. Link however is used to make your character updating process easier. It allows you to automatically update your character while your are on AC itself.

  1. All you have to do is start AC while Decal is running (and while you have Link configured to start - by default it is).
  2. Next log on your designated character.
  3. Once your log-on is complete, you should see a menu bar across the top of your screen.
  4. Click on Link
  5. It'll bring up a small panel on the left hand side of your screen that will ask for the server address (same as mentioned above) and password. (Your character name will already eb know to it and so not need to be entered).
  6. Click Update, and it will log in and update your character information for you. Thats all there is to it. As long as you remain connected, it will continue to update your character information.

Questions/Comments

ACGM, AC IRC, and Link have a support page for any problems and/or comments at http://boards.gamers.com/messages/overview.asp?name=acgm or email Temmu at temmu_acgm@hotmail.com.

And if you have questions about Link, you can either use the ACGM message boards and/or email Your-God at yourgod@acdev.org.
